St. Thomas is known as the "Railway Capital" of Canada. Our rich railway heritage has shaped our City, and we are proud of this history! Come to St. Thomas to explore our railway heritage. 

Elgin County Railway Museum

Elgin County Railway Museum

The Elgin County Railway Museum is located at 225 Wellington Street, between Ross Street and First Avenue. They are the large red building behind Lyle Cook Automotive.

After Labour Day the museum is officially open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10:00 am until noon.

Private tours can be arranged outside of regular hours by calling the museum at 519-637-6284 or sending an e-mail to tours@ecrm5700.org.



Railway Heritage Weekend

The Elgin County Railway Museum hosts the Railway Heritage weekend annually on the fourth weekend in August, which coincides with the Iron Horse Festival weekend. The Elgin County Railway Museum offers many railway displays, railway item vendors, train rides, model trains, and entertainment in addition to the Museum's own regular displays.
